Farm Crew
Work Description
The Farm Crew positions will primarily focus on floral and vegetable crop management, harvest, wash/pack and general farm maintenance.
These are seasonal part time positions; 24 hours/ week = three 8hr shifts. Season runs early May - end of October.
Weekly Schedule
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
This position works closely with Caleb and Molly to perform the following:
• Assist in general field management; bed preparations, transplanting, cultivation, staking & trellising, dead heading
• Assist in vegetable harvest for markets and wholesale accounts; harvesting in the greenhouses & fields as well as washing and packaging produce
• Assist in flower harvest for markets and wholesale accounts; prepping buckets, cutting stems, post harvest handling
• Learn wash/pack systems; effectively sanitize wash/pack, operate salad spinner & scale, learn crop specific packaging and labeling
• Learn proper flower and vegetable handling protocol to ensure food safety and to preserve products post-harvest
Compensation & Hours:
A two-week paid trial period will begin from date of hire. Starting hourly pay between $15-17/hour based on abilities and experience. After your two week trial period each crew member receives $35 worth of farm products each week. These are W-2 positions with payroll done through Bangor Savings Bank and workers compensation insurance is provided.
This position is part-time (24 hours/week) beginning early May and going through the end of October. Our ideal schedule is three 8-hour days; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The work schedule will be set monthly with consideration for time off and on-farm needs. Work days include a 30 minute, paid, lunch.
There is opportunity for hours, rate of pay and length of employment to increase as the season progresses and as experience and knowledge are gained.
Housing is not offered as part of this position, though we will assist you in finding local housing or additional employment if desired.

Interest in organic vegetable and flower farming
Enthusiasm for working as a team
Desire to learn about our products and farm systems
Flexibility in working with diverse personalities
Flexibility and enthusiasm for working outside and in greenhouses, regardless of weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior farm experience or comparable outdoor work
Attention to detail
Interest in learning and implementing systems efficiently
Flexibility and ability to manage several tasks at once

Physical Demands:
Farming is both rewarding and demanding work. The successful candidate will be able to monitor and prepare for the predicted weather and remain calm and focused on the task at hand. Safety is important to us and as such a successful candidate will learn to operate equipment safely. It is necessary for the candidate to be able to:
Maintain a brisk and focused working pace all day;
Move different objects weighing between 10- 60 pounds repeatedly, particularly on harvest days;
Spend long hours walking/standing/squatting/kneeling;
Perform repetitive and monotonous tasks;
Work outside for most of the day, despite inclement weather

Market Crew
Work Description
The Market Crew position will be primarily responsible for retail sales at The Bar Harbor Farmers Market every week as well as our on-site Farmstand. This is a seasonal, part-time position. 24 hours/ week. Season runs early May - end of October.
Weekly Schedule
Friday- on Farm, prepping Farmstand & washing crates - 7hr shift
Saturday- Four Season Farmstand 6am-2pm - 8hr shift
Sunday- Bar Harbor Farmers Market 6am-3pm - 9hr shift
This position works closely with Caleb and Molly to perform the following:
• Strategically load & unload market van
• Set-up market display; tents, tables, product displays
• Greet customers and provide friendly and informed customer service
• Learn product offerings, usage, and pricing
• Make recommendations based on customer needs
• Wrap bouquets during build-your-own bouquet bars
• Perform retail sales using a point-of-sale system; inclusive of accepting cash, check, EBT food stamps and credit card payments
• Monitor and record inventory pre-post market
• Safely handle products to maintain quality of packaging and food safety
• A valid driver’s license & clean driving history is required to fulfill job duties
This position’s secondary responsibilities include the following:
• Wash and sanitize all harvest & market crates & buckets on Fridays
• Prepare muffin mix Friday night for Saturday Farm stand. Bake off muffins Saturday morning while prepping farmstand
• Assist in maintaining farmstand garden during slow times
• Assist cleaning farmstand; including display crates and signs, general up-keep
• Assist with on-farm events if/when schedule allows
