ABOUT

Thank you for supporting our dream

Rooted in love, inspired by place; we are the Little Red Flower Truck!

Molly Friedland and Caleb Hawkins founded the Little Red Flower Truck in 2021 and are dedicated to a fruitful future in flower farming.

Molly, originally from Annapolis MD, moved to Maine in 2012 to pursue landscape gardening on MDI. Molly has over 15 years of experience working with flowers and brings passion and plant knowledge to the table.

Caleb, a true Mainer, comes from a long line of boat builders and together with his father, Havilah, custom-built the actual Little Red Flower Truck! Caleb manages the farm infrastructure, handles building and vehicle maintenance and supports the dream.

Molly and Caleb met as undergrads at Warren Wilson College and formed a friendship that blossomed into a partnership that is now the dream team behind the Little Red Flower Truck.

Flowers nourish and diversify our ecosystem

Flower farms create essential habitat for our pollinators, who hold the key to our food security.

We are grateful to be able to do this work that ties us to the seasons and to the land. We recognize that we are on indigenous land. The broader place we now call Maine is home to the sovereign people of the Wabanaki Confederacy: the Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Maliseet, and Mi’kmaq peoples. We exist on their unceded homelands.

By supporting local farms you are choosing conscious consumerism. You are choosing to support the holistic health of your environment and you are supporting a small business!

By leaning into the seasons and learning what grows best here on the coast of Maine, we are committed to offering you the highest quality, longest lasting, best smelling, guilt-free version of floral joy!

Not all flowers are created equal!

80% of flowers sold in the US are imported, often doused in chemicals and carry a massive carbon footprint

OUR MISSION:

To spread floral joy!

To increase awareness of the importance of supporting small scale, sustainable, local agriculture.

To facilitate joyful experiences featuring mindfully grown flowers.

To become an integral part of our community through flowers.

To teach others the craft of fresh or dried floral design.

OUR PHILOSOPHY:

We prioritize regenerative and sustainable growing methods and are intentional in creating a farm plan that is well suited to its natural environment as well as being realistic to execute at our small scale.

The farm where we lease is MOFGA Certified organic, so while our flowers are not certified, we abide by the organic growing principals.

We are pollinator enthusiasts and beekeepers so we keep conservation in mind when choosing field and pest management practices.

We do not use herbicides, pesticides, fungicides and implement integrated pest management as much as possible in both of our growing locations.

We respect the geography and history of the land that we farm. We aim to farm in harmony with the seasons and recognize that there is not a ‘one-size fits-all’ approach for farming, or for life. Our approach is to observe, listen and learn with nature as our guide.

We recognize that we are on indigenous land. The broader place we now call Maine is home to the sovereign people of the Wabanaki Confederacy: the Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Maliseet, and Mi’kmaq peoples. We exist on their unceded homelands.

We are committed to providing you with the highest quality cut flowers and have strict quality control standards.
